Co-owners of Wrexham, Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, still have hope for a second straight promotion after their team’s “huge win” over Notts County at home.
After three straight losses, their season looked like it was about to collapse, but they turned the corner with a crucial away victory over Sutton United in the middle of the week. They then defeated their National League promotion rivals from the previous season, with a first-half goal from Steven Fletcher proving to be the difference.

Phil Parkinson, the manager, showered veteran Premier League striker Fletcher and his striking partner Mullin with accolades after the game for leading from the front. In his post-match interview, he singled out both forwards and right-back Ryan Barnett, who sent the cross into the box that resulted in the winning goal.

“I told the lads that if they go to a back four, then Cameron would be a centre back on the left and up against Barney,” Parkinson stated on the Wrexham club website. I advised them to pass the ball to Ryan Barnett, or Barney, as he excels in such kinds of circumstances.
Fletch is the one player you want in the box; he delivered some really good stuff in both the first and second halves. He poses such a threat when it comes to him. Though I’m happy for him, Fletch and Mulls are more valuable members of the team.

“It takes five yards of work and attention to detail to know when to press against a team with that level of technical skill, and Fletch and Mulls both know how to do that.” All things considered, it was a day where everyone had to execute their duties, as any defensive effort begins at the front. When the time came, we achieved the objective with a dedicated and focused approach. Even though the game was close and heated, Parkinson knew how important the victory was. With a game remaining, Wrexham gains three points to climb up to third place in the League Two standings, three points behind leaders Stockport County.

“I’m really happy,” Parkinson exclaimed. “We are aware that Notts are a strong team; it was a challenging game. It was an excellent game, in my opinion, and a great promotion for the division.

We displayed a variety of aspects of our game. We had to exercise discipline when without the ball, even though we didn’t look very dangerous at moments in the first half.
I thought we played a fantastic first half, and we improved in the first twenty minutes of the second half.” We knew Notts would err on the side of caution, so we had to have a disciplined approach. We clearly needed that next goal, which we didn’t achieve. I felt the boys played really well today; it was a great victory for us and a real shift.”
