Oliver Glasner, the new manager of Crystal Palace, has been presented with his first Selhurst Park puzzle following the discovery of a fantastic player.
Glasner is confirmed by Palace as Hodgson’s replacement.
In an effort to keep the south London team out of the Championship, Eagles chairman Steve Parish officially appointed Glasner earlier this week.
The only teams with less points than Palace are Everton, Burnley, and Sheffield United. Palace is among the lowest scoring teams in the premier league. Additionally, they are only five points above the drop zone, thus Glasner will have a difficult time turning the round and improving this disastrous campaign.
In any case, the Austrian has voiced his happiness about joining Palace and his eagerness to get going.
After signing for Crystal Palace, Glasner stated, “I am very happy to join Crystal Palace” (via BBC).
“I am excited to work with the brilliant team, get to know the club’s supporters, and take in the atmosphere that Selhurst Park has been talking about for so long. Meeting with Steve [Parish, chairman] and Dougie [Freedman, sporting director] has been enjoyable, and I am eager to collaborate with them to accomplish our objectives.”
More physicality is expected from the tactician, and it’s thought Glasner will “assert” himself at Palace from the outset.
Journalist Dean Jones told GiveMeSport last week, “I think Glasner will assert himself by bringing a sense of physicality to Crystal Palace and also probably more of a modern approach to their attacking set-up than they perhaps had recently.”
“That won’t happen right now. Although this squad won’t be able to make many changes in the near future, funding will be secured for it in the summer. Based on his previous performance in Germany and the coaching insights I’ve received from others I’ve spoken to there, it appears that Crystal Palace made a wise selection in appointing him. This may turn out to be a wise choice in the end, despite all of the fan objections and charges that they lack ambition.”
To be fair, there’s a lot of enthusiasm surrounding Glasner’s arrival; nevertheless, Sportslens and reporter Jones suggest that he may have just been given his first major setback.
Guehi won’t entertain new deal as big clubs look to steal him
This takes the form of updates on defender Marc Guehi, who is attracting interest from major English clubs like Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, and Tottenham.
Glasner “faces a big challenge” in his new role, according to Jones, since the manager may lose both Michael Olise and Guehi this summer. For the former, there are rumours that he wouldn’t even consider staying into 2026.
The 23-year-old Guehi is under contract with Palace through 2026, and he is now said to not be interested in the concept of a new, better agreement at this time.”
With 22 games under his belt for Palace this season, goalie Josef Bursik has praised Guehi as a “massive” and “absolute tank” of a player.
