Wide receiver Kendrick Bourne and the New England Patriots have not yet reached an agreement on a new contract, and it might take longer yet.

The latest information on the ongoing contract negotiations between the New England Patriots and Kendrick Bourne is not positive. The Boston Herald reported that the Patriots and Bourne’s negotiations have not progressed in a number of months.

After rupturing his ACL in October, Bourne missed the final few games of the Patriots season while he healed. Prior to the ACL tear in 2023, he had 37 catches for 406 yards and four touchdowns.

BOURNE’S FUTURE

The future is uncertain for the wide receiver. According to the Boston Herald, Bourne visited the Patriots’ facility on Thursday and Friday and is recovering more quickly than expected. When the next season begins, he should be prepared, and if he becomes a free agency, other NFL teams may show interest in signing him.

Bourne might decide to re-sign with the team, but that is not guaranteed just yet. The Patriots, coming off a very poor 2023 season, are attempting to reorganise their roster. After an amicable divorce with head coach Bill Belichick, the club ended 4-13. Since Tom Brady left the team, the franchise has just once advanced to the playoffs.

Bourne was a dependable pass-catcher for the Patriots before to his injury. In 2021, he had the best season of his career with the team, catching 55 passes for 800 yards and five touchdowns. Over 3,400 yards and 21 receiving touchdowns in all have been scored by him over his career. Prior to moving to New England, Bourne was a player for the San Francisco 49ers as well.

The NFL’s official free agency period will begin on Monday, March 11, according to the Boston Herald. Whether the Patriots choose to retain Brown or allow him to join another team will become clear in due course.
