According to Phil Parkinson, Wrexham no longer possesses the “killer instinct,” hence it’s critical that quality is restored during a subsequent promotion attempt.
Consequently, what happened?
In the 2022–2023 season, the Red Dragons held their composure as they stormed to a record-breaking National League title victory. A year later, more of the same was anticipated thanks to the backing of Hollywood co-owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, who made it possible to assemble a star-studded team.

Parkinson has seen the first turbulence of his Wrexham tenure in 2024; in the last eight games across all competitions, the Red Dragons have lost five and won just two. Once again, the Welsh team has fallen outside of the top three in League Two as they are unable to sustain the domination they have become accustomed to.
PARKINSON’S MENTION
Following a 1-0 loss at Gillingham the previous time out, Parkinson revealed to BBC Sport what weaknesses his team now has: “We did a lot of very good things but lacked that clinical edge in their box.” We need to find that deadly instinct again. Although there were a few breakaways in the first half and other instances, our game lacked its clinical edge and ruthlessness. You will not have ninety minutes to dominate a game. However, setting goals is crucial at those times, and we haven’t done that as well as we should have lately.
We seem to be a little bit frantic to find those crucial moments because we are shooting when we should be passing and passing when we should be shooting, but we will fix that for our next game. We will remain united because, in football, it’s all about seizing the big moments. Everyone needs to exert a little bit more effort.
FUTURE PLANS FOR WREXHAM?
Wrexham’s poor road record—just five victories in 17 games—has been holding them back. On the other hand, they have the best home record in the division and will be eager to return to SToK Racecourse the following weekend after travelling to a struggling Forest Green Rovers midweek.
