Following Monday, February 26’s 4-1 victory over Brentford by David Moyes’ team, Jeff Stelling and Ally McCoist took aim at West Ham supporters live on television.
After losing eight games in all competitions, the Hammers boss at London Stadium has been under a great deal of pressure. Against the Bees, a hat-trick from Jarrod Bowen and a rocket from Emerson Palmieri sealed a victory.
Although West Ham supporters have been harshly critical of Moyes’ style of play, Lucas Paqueta’s injured comeback appears to have played a major factor in the team’s first win since December.
Tuesday, February 27, at 6:05 a.m., Stelling made a joke while speaking live on talkSPORT, saying, “They can put that ‘Moyes out’ banner back in the attic, can’t they?”
“I’m sure it’ll come back out sometime during the next month or so,” Ally McCoist added. “That was a terrific result.”
Stelling went on to say: “Reigning Europa Conference League champions Brighton are through to the Europa League Last 16 level on points with them. What more is required of David Moyes?
“People frequently claim that we are David Moyes’ friends, but that is untrue. It is evident that he is performing fairly well.
Is the criticism of David Moyes at West Ham United too harsh?
Without a question, Moyes has given the supporters amazing memories while leading the Hammers to some amazing accomplishments.
But before their match against Brentford on Monday, February 26, the Scot has not been winning games since the start of the new year. Football is a results-based sport.
Given that West Ham is falling in the standings and out of the top six, this would indicate that the criticism levelled at the manager of the team is more than justified.
There was optimism early in the season that the London team would place among the top four and that they would be competitive. However, serious injuries have also had an impact.
It appeared as though a switch had been flipped and the original form had been found again as soon as Paqueta returned. Even though there was still room for improvement, West Ham needed to win all three points.
Although it appears that Moyes will have until the end of the season to consider his future, that could have altered if the bad run had persisted. Managers can only live off of their past successes for so long.
