The Football Association has filed charges of misconduct against Nottingham Forest and first-team coach Steven Reid for their altercation with referee Paul Tierney following Saturday’s Premier League match against Liverpool.
Reid was sent out after he entered the pitch to argue with Tierney at the conclusion of the game, which ended with Forest losing 1-0 due to a goal by Darwin Nunez far into stoppage time.
Referee analyst Mark Clattenburg for Forest remarked that the team was “aggrieved” by Tierney’s erroneous decision to give Liverpool a dropped ball in the Reds’ penalty area instead of awarding possession to Forest when he paused play due to Ibrahima Konate’s head injury.
Reid is accused of acting inappropriately after being fired because of his allegedly abusive and/or disparaging remarks directed towards Tierney. Forest faces accusations for not making sure that their players and technical personnel acted appropriately. Reid and the team have until March 13 to address the allegations.
It is acknowledged that no additional action will be taken against any other Forest residents. The team denied rumours that their owner, Evangelos Marinakis, needed to be held after pursuing Tierney through the tunnel following the final whistle, but they did acknowledge that he spoke with the referee.
Sunday at the Amex Stadium will see Forest, now ranked 17th in the Premier League, make their return to action against Brighton.
