Former Italian manager Roberto De Zerbi, whose teams have included AC Milan and Napoli, is content at Brighton as they get ready to play Roma in the Europa League.
Despite supposedly being on Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s shortlist of three candidates to succeed Erik ten Hag at Manchester United, Roberto De Zerbi has declared that he will return to Italy at some point in the future to manage.
De Zerbi, who has coached a number of Italian teams, including AC Milan and Napoli, is content with Brighton for the time being as his squad gets ready to play Roma in the Europa League.
Prior to their first leg of the round of 16, the Italian stated, “I do what makes me happy and right now I am happy where I am.” Both when we win and when we lose, it makes me joyful. I have no idea when I will go back to Italy, but I will one day.”
According to ESPN, De Zerbi is on Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s shortlist to take Erik ten Hag’s post should the next Man United co-owner decide to take a cutting board and start over at Old Trafford the following season. The other two managers who are supposedly in the running are Thomas Frank of Brentford and Gareth Southgate, the manager of England.
Ratcliffe has taken notice of De Zerbi because of his outstanding performance on the south coast, where he has led the Seagulls to their first-ever Europa League.
This season, Brighton has found it difficult to match the heights of their previous campaign, and they enter the match at the Stadio Olimpico fresh off a 3-0 loss to Fulham over the weekend.
“Very proud to be back in my home country with my team,” De Zerbi exclaimed. “I adore this crew so much. This is a team that is capable of losing 3-0 yet never gives up. They play with hunger and pride, and I am really happy with this group.
“We’ll try it out. We shall act modestly. We are aware of our actions during the past ninety-six months. We are creating history, something this club has never done before.”
Pascal Gross, a midfielder, is thrilled about the chance to play in Rome. “It’s a beautiful city,” he declared. One of my fave films is Gladiator. We are eagerly anticipating tomorrow. Despite our modesty, we will aspire to accomplish something exceptional.”
