Coming from behind to win 3-1 at Morecambe, Wrexham secured a crucial three points through goals from James McClean, Paul Mullin, and Steven Fletcher.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
With Wrexham’s careless defence giving Gerard Garner all the time in the world to control the ball and smash it past Arthur Okonkwo from a tight angle, Morecambe took the lead in just four minutes.
After that, the hosts became their own worst enemies because of a defensive blunder that allowed Wrexham to tie the score shortly after the half-hour mark. Mullin pounced on a sloppy ball back, but he still had a lot of work to do as he cut in past Jacob Bedeau, tore down the flank, and squared to McClean, who hammered it into the net.
Although Wrexham had been improving throughout the match, the goal placed them ahead of the game as Mullin and Ryan Barnett pushed Morecambe custodian Archie Mair into rapid back-to-back saves.
Max Melbourne’s second yellow card for a tackle on Ollie Palmer early in the second half proved to be disastrous for Morecambe. In less than five minutes, Mullin sent Mair the wrong way to add to the suffering of his previous squad and give his present one the lead after Wrexham was granted a penalty due to a handball.
After then, Wrexham saw very little difficulty and, thanks to a goal from Steven Fletcher, secured an easy victory that put them back in the English fourth division’s automatic promotion spots.
THE STAR
Even though Morecambe striker Garner showed some early promise, Mullin, the star of Wrexham, emerged as the clear winner. He performed a fantastic job of pressuring Morecambe into committing an error, earning the crucial assist before coolly finishing his penalty kick in the second half. The standout forward nearly increased his total as he continued to pose a threat.
THE MAJOR SLagger
Melbourne, a defender for Morecambe, will feel that he let his side down by receiving two yellow cards, which caused them to struggle for much the whole first half. He was sent off for two flagrant fouls, the most egregious of which was when he side-swiped Palmer.
NEXT WHAT HAPPENS?
