Phil Parkinson thinks the Dragons are getting closer to League Two promotion with Wrexham’s point in the goalless draw against Harrogate.
Despite the fact that the Sulphurites are among the strongest away teams in the league this year, the hosts were unable to overcome them; however, Wrexham moved up to second place while Harrogate stayed in 14th.
Parkinson thinks the point moves his team one step closer to playing in League One next season, even if he believed they were unable to produce the crucial moment to secure a winner.
“I believe we did a lot of things right, I believe we dominated the game, and although I felt our crossing was not up to par to create enough chances, we still had enough moments to have won the game,” Parkinson stated.
“I felt the boys gave it their all.” Nothing was left undone tonight, but we were unable to locate the decisive moment that would have started the game.
We are aware of Harrogate’s strong away performance this season. We’ve experienced that in the National League before, and they worked hard; you have to give them credit for that, but in reality, it was a game on the balance of play that we should have won. They sit in, cause disruptions, and make things difficult.
It’s an additional destination that we aim to reach. We go on to the weekend and realize it’s not the worst thing in the world. We’ve got a point, as I’ve often stated, so don’t give up if you can’t win.
Simon Weaver of Harrogate was all praise for his team’s performance and thinks they will be “in business” the next season if they can carry over their strong away performance at home.
“I thought the boys were absolutely superb,” Weaver remarked. It was all about finding a way to win the game, and the guys never wavered in their organization or hard work ethic.
In the second half, we had to play a lot of defense because they were unrelenting. We played some excellent football and competed effectively in the first half, so in my opinion, there was nothing to worry about. However, as the game neared its conclusion, we felt the need to defend, which is what we did. We kept them to very few opportunities and kept our goal well guarded.
They had a lot of territory and balls into the box, but our defense was expertly executed.
“It’s really just a problem at home, and we need to fix it; it’s that easy.” All of us, but especially me, have an obligation to ensure that our home form for the upcoming season reflects our away form from this one. That way, we’ll actually be in business.
