In the summer of 2020, Aston Villa decided to let go of Callum O’Hare. Coventry City took advantage of this move and signed the player in July 2020 on a free transfer.

O’Hare was able to demonstrate his abilities to his new team in his first season with the Sky Blues, playing in every Championship game of the 2020–21 campaign while dishing out eight assists and scoring three goals.

It was Mark Robins’ team’s first season back in the second division, and they will always be appreciative of O’Hare’s contributions to that campaign because it saw them narrowly escape relegation, which was their main goal when they returned to the Championship.

For the Sky Blues, O’Hare has solidified himself as a fan favorite.
Following a strong debut season with the Sky Blues, O’Hare had an even better 2021–2022 campaign, finishing with five goals and eight assists.

The Midlands team has been improving under Robins’ direction, as evidenced by their 12th place finish in 2021/22, which was an improvement over their 16th place finish in 2020/21.

The Sky Blues then advanced to the 2023 play-off final in just their third season back in the Championship, but they tragically lost out on penalties to Luton Town, who went on to gain promotion.

However, the Sky Blues supporters will always cherish their pleasant recollections of the 2022–2023 season, as the team finished in fifth position with a total of 70 points.

Unfortunately, O’Hare was sidelined for the entirety of the unforgettable 2022–2023 season due to an ACL injury he sustained on Boxing Day 2022 during the Sky Blues’ 3–1 loss to Sheffield United, who earned automatic promotion to the Premier League in 2023.

Even though supporters of Robins’ team will always wonder if they could have advanced to the next level at the conclusion of the 2022–2023 season had O’Hare remained healthy for the second half of the campaign, his services to the team will always be appreciated.

After an extended absence due to an ACL injury, the attacking midfielder eventually returned in October 2023. By December 8th, he was back in the starting lineup for the Robins, and he scored two goals as the Sky

The fact that O’Hare was instantly back among the goals following his return from a lengthy spell on the sidelines, is testament to the outstanding character and quality he has shown in a Coventry shirt.

Sky Blues fans will always be grateful Villa released O’Hare

O’Hare was released by Aston Villa in 2020, which allowed the Sky Blues to sign him. Since he has been one of the team’s best players since the Championship team’s return, O’Hare’s free transfer makes this a very sweet deal for Sky Blues fans to enjoy.

Given that O’Hare joined the Sky Blues for free and has since become a hugely important character, it is extremely possible to argue that he is one of the team’s best deals ever.
