Key defender Pascal Struijk will miss the rest of the season, Leeds United manager Daniel Farke has revealed to the media.
Leeds United leads the table at the moment with eight games remaining. By the end of the season, they want to keep up their progress and secure a slot in the automatic promotion zone.
They will, however, be unable to accomplish this without the assistance of one of their great players. Despite not having played since December, center-back Struijk had been instrumental in their campaign up until then.
In his pre-game press conference, Farke acknowledged that the groin injury that has kept him out of play now appears to keep him out of action until next season.
According to reporter Phil Hay on X, the Whites manager announced that he underwent surgery for the problem and will miss the remainder of the campaign.
It was drawn out and difficult. Everything went smoothly. Farke stated, “He began to stay his initial steps into rehab.”
On Good Friday, Leeds United resumes their Championship campaign by visiting Watford, where a victory might solidify their leadership position.
Farke’s team has good news regarding injuries, though, as attacker Georginio Rutter has resumed training. But for the Frenchman, the Watford match might come too soon.
A severe setback for Leeds United
Even though Struijk hasn’t played since December, they have prospered without him. Since then, Ethan Ampadu and Joe Rodon have developed a terrific defensive center connection for Leeds United.
Still, there will be a great loss of Struijk’s influence in the dressing room and on the field. This indicates that their depth is lacking, and his experience would be crucial in helping them advance.
It will be advantageous to have him back during preseason, particularly because Rodon is returning to his native club, Tottenham Hotspur, and his future at Elland Road after his loan is up in the air.
