All the latest team news for Brighton and Hove Albion and across the Premier League
Brighton is upbeat. Billy Gilmour, a midfielder for Scotland, plans to play again before the Premier League season ends.
Prior to his team’s trip to Liverpool, Seagulls manager Roberto De Zerbi announced that the 22-year-old had returned from international duty with a knee injury and would be sidelined for a few weeks.
“Unfortunately Billy Gilmour can’t play for a lot of time,” said the Italian.
Concern was raised among Scotland supporters after Gilmour shared a photo of himself in front of his TV while sporting a knee brace in anticipation of watching his teammates play on Sunday at Anfield, little over two months out from the opening match of Euro 2024.
Brighton still has nine league games left, beginning at Brentford on Wednesday. Club physicians are reportedly optimistic that Gilmour will be well enough to make a comeback before the season concludes and be eligible to represent his nation at the Euros.
Gilmour participated in 67 minutes of Scotland’s 4-0 loss to the Netherlands on the road before leaving the game in the 69th minute of their 1-0 loss to Northern Ireland at home on Tuesday.
The midfielder has won 25 caps since making his debut weeks before the last Euros in 2021 and has started seven of Scotland’s last nine matches.
Steve Clarke’s side have two friendlies against Gibraltar and Finland on June 3 and 7 respectively before kicking off the tournament against hosts Germany in Munich on June 14.
