Kenny Miller worries that two of the team’s best players this season may soon leave the Gers, according to manager Philippe Clement.
After expressing his worries over the future of two of the Rangers’ best players this year, Kenny Miller insisted that there are other players he wouldn’t be too upset to see leave in the summer.
Miller has shared his thoughts on transfer interest in current Ibrox No. 1 Jack Butland and John Lundstram’s ongoing contract situation ahead of Sunday’s powderkeg Old Firm match against Celtic at Ibrox. He believes that both players will command a high price when the summer transfer window opens and worries that, should Rangers get any formal proposals, they would be driven away.
Nottingham Forest, a Premier League team, lost out on signing Butland at the end of January, but Miller believes other teams will be vying for his services because of the Englishman’s outstanding play in goal this season. Miller, meantime, is hoping that Lundstram signs a new contract and asserts that captain James Tavernier will decide to finish his playing career at Rangers rather than pursue a reported offer from Saudi Arabia.
“Jack Butland has been the subject of a lot of discussion. I know that Nottingham Forest expressed interest in him back in January, and maybe one or two other teams as well,” he stated. I would be worried about losing Jack because I don’t think that will go away in the summer. He’s had a really tremendous impact on this team, not just in terms of performances but also as a character in the dressing room.
Top players are characterized by their speech patterns, demeanor, and ability to influence those around them. Thus, I’m worried about what will happen to him after this summer.
You simply never know what kind of incredible, life-altering offers are currently in front of John Lundstram because his contract expires in the summer. Some of those deals, I can only picture how they will look. One encouraging thing about John is that he has acknowledged that there are still talks and that both parties are in love. That indicates to me that Rangers genuinely want to retain John, and he is enjoying his stay at the team.
I don’t think any of the other players are going to leave too soon. You know, players like Oscar Cortes and Mohamed Diomande, should his transfer become permanent, are relatively new to the team. Although Todd Cantwell and Tom Lawrence are significant players, I don’t think either has done enough this season to merit a transfer that would allow them to leave the team at this particular time. James Tavernier intends to finish his career with the Rangers; he won’t leave until they fire him! That is beyond question.
