Crysencio Summerville has already been linked with a host of clubs ahead of the summer
Leeds United should prioritize signing Crysencio Summerville to a new contract regardless of whether they advance this season. After a fantastic season in the Championship, former White Carlton Palmer believes Summerville would be content to remain at Elland Road and continue working under Daniel Farke.
Summerville leads the Whites in scoring with 17 league goals this year, and Leeds will be counting on him to be crucial in the final five games of the season as they aim for automatic promotion. Due to his impressive achievements, the 22-year-old has been linked to several teams in recent days and weeks, including Liverpool, AC Milan, Newcastle United, Chelsea, Aston Villa, and Arsenal.
However, according to a recent report from Football Transfers, United is prepared to make Summerville, who has two years remaining on his contract, an offer to extend his contract. This would place the club in the driver’s seat should a sale occur, with an estimated asking price of £45 million being mentioned.
Palmer thinks that makes a lot of sense, and the commentator is pushing the club to sign that as soon as possible.
“They would really benefit from knowing that they are back in the Premier League, as his pay would clearly depend on it. Palmer told Football League World, “They wouldn’t want to pay him a huge salary while he was still in the Championship.”
“Tying him down to a longer contract means they can hold out for the type of money that they want for his services if they don’t get promoted,” he continued.
“I always thought Daniel Farke would do a fantastic job at Leeds United, so I think the chance to stay and work under him is something I always thought he would do. He was incredibly effective throughout his tenure at Norwich, and the players enjoy his leadership, his approach, and his manner of doing things.
Thus, I believe Summerville will be pleased to agree to a new deal. Of course, I assume there will be a release clause in there should Leeds United come back to the Premier League so he can then move on, but the aim for them is to get him signed down as quickly as possible.”
