Leeds United have held talks with Michy Batshuayi’s representatives about a potential summer transfer, according to Fotomac.

Writing on their website (17 April), the Turkish news outlet reported that the Belgium striker is a target for a move to Elland Road with his contract set to expire this summer in Istanbul.

However, Fenerbahce have an option to extend his contract by a further 12 months which they are planning on triggering and they are keen to then offer him new terms on a deal until 2027 after his excellent form this season.

Leeds United must replace Patrick Bamford

The Whites have been the best defensive team in the Championship this season, and their chances of promotion are very much reliant on them staying solid for the remainder of the campaign.

The top scorer for the team this season has been Crysencio Summerville, a winger, with other attacking options all chipping in with a decent amount.

But with a natural goalscorer leading the line promotion could well have been secured already, and that is where the summer transfer window will surely be spent looking for additions.

Patrick Bamford had a good run of form at the turn of the year but ultimately has proven not to be good enough to rely upon, and if the team make it back to the Premier League then he will need to be replaced.

Batshuayi would have been a shrewd signing to do exactly that, but Fenerbahce have moved to ensure he will stay in Istanbul and so Daniel Farke and the 49ers will need to look elsewhere now.
