Losing Stefon Diggs in the offseason was not on many Buffalo Bills fans’ bingo cards.
There was some noise surrounding Diggs and the team, but for the most part, they just seemed like rumors.
When the rubber hit the road, it seemed that the situation between the two parties was unsolvable, forcing the front office to orchestrate a trade with the Houston Texans.
Now that Diggs is gone, fans have been clamoring for the Bills to either add someone else in free agency or heavily target the position in the draft.
While the Bills could certainly try to add some receiver help in what is said to be a loaded draft class, Bills GM Brandon Beane recently spoke in a press conference, hoping to downplay the situation.
According to Dan Fetes, when Beane was asked about the Bills needing a true No. 1 receiver, Beane said, “What you need are guys that are smart, versatile, selfless, and can make the plays that their skillset allows them to make
These comments from Beane are interesting, especially since Diggs was said to have aided Josh Allen in his development as a passer.
Allen struggled early on in his career with the Bills, but once the team added Diggs, everything started to come together for this offense.
He might be a veteran with plenty of NFL experience, but Allen still needs pass-catchers to throw to.
If the Bills don’t find someone to absorb Diggs’ target volume, 2024 could be a tough season for a team that has been among the best in the AFC for the past several seasons
