In response to abuse that former Leeds United teammate Kalvin Phillips received while out on loan at West Ham United, Patrick Bamford has defended the player.
In search of more Premier League playing time away from Manchester City, the midfield player joined the Hammers during the January transfer window.
Phillips hasn’t had a good time at London Stadium. He was sent off after making several mistakes that resulted in goals.
Joe Wilkinson questioned Bamford on the My Mate’s A Footballer Podcast, saying, “Kalvin Phillips is obviously world-class.” Given your knowledge of him, what do you believe he currently needs?
The English striker quickly defended his former teammate after coming out in favor of him.
“There is a big difference between training every day and playing a few minutes here and there,” Bamford retorted. He is still lacking the match sharpness.
“Social networking is awful. He doesn’t suddenly become unfit to play for any Premier League team after winning Player of the Year in England.
Should Kalvin Phillips be signed by Leeds United?
It seems possible that the Whites will be promoted from the Championship at the first opportunity this season.
If so, they will need to use the summer transfer window to get ready for the Premier League.
Given his difficulties since leaving Elland Road, Phillips’ reunion with Leeds could be ideal.
According to Matthew Cooper’s article in the Mirror on April 3, he plans to return to his home club in the summer, even if it means accepting a “major pay cut.”
Considering his prior caliber, he has only played 396 minutes this season, which is just insufficient [FotMob].
Even with limited playing experience, he has demonstrated his class with some outstanding stats. Fbref reports that he has tried 68.39 passes and 1.71 shoots, with an 87.7% success rate that is among the best in Europe.
Ilia Gruev and Glen Kamara have been Leeds’ midfielders in recent weeks; they will require more Premier League experience if they are promoted.
Perhaps next season, a loan return to Elland Road would work for everyone and be the Yorkshire Pirlo’s fanciful comeback.
