The Dallas Cowboys have welcomed back the return of an old friend this offseason.

With a need at running back, they brought back former All-Pro tailback Ezekiel Elliott on a one-year deal worth a max of $3 million

The 28-year-old will seemingly be more of a role player as opposed to what he once was in his first seven career seasons with Dallas.

News broke Wednesday about Elliott’s new jersey number for the upcoming year.

According to official team site, Elliott will wear No. 15, which is the number that he wore while at Ohio State.

Again, Elliott will not be what he was early on in his Cowboys career.

The player that led the league in rushing twice (2016, 2018) and had at least 1,100 scrimmage yards in six of his seven years in Jerry World is not the same player that is coming back to Dallas.

The former fourth overall pick was a role player on the Patriots last year, recording a career-low in rushing yards (642).

However, he did come close to putting up 1,000 scrimmage yards and five total touchdowns.

He is not a true No.1 running back anymore, especially in Dallas with up-and-coming back Deuce Vaughn in the fold.

But, he has experience playing for head coach Mike McCarthy and with quarterback Dak Prescott.

He has a career mark of 4.3 yards per carry and will be very useful in short-yardage situations.

Look for the franchise legend, now wearing No. 15, to be a key piece of the run game this season.
