Everton in panic mode as Tottenham join race for £25m target; attacker wants to leave Leeds ‘ASAP’

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly considering a move for Leeds United winger Wilfried Gnonto, who is one of Everton’s top targets.

The pacy 19-year-old has refused to play in Leeds’ last two matches as he tries to force through a move to Goodison Park.

The Leeds hierarchy recently released a statement saying Gnonto is not for sale this summer, but behind the scenes, there is a belief that a bid of £25m will be enough to secure his services.

As previously reported by TEAMtalk, Everton have reached an agreement on personal terms with the winger. As a result, the only thing left for them to agree on is a transfer fee.

Everton have already signed Jack Harrison from Leeds on a season-long loan and seem determined to complete an eye-catching double swoop on the Yorkshire club.

Gnonto scored two goals and made four assists in 24 Premier League appearances last season. His performances have also earned him a spot in the Italy national team, with 12 caps so far, so there is certainly no doubting his quality.

It now seems, however, that Tottenham could swoop in for the attacker’s signature as Everton struggle to agree on a fee with Leeds.

Tottenham consider Gnonto move

According to London World, Tottenham are ‘still in the market’ for a player who can provide pace, assists and goals. They are now ‘considering’ a move for Gnonto.

The report claims Leeds are looking for a fee of £20m but other outlets claim that the Italian’s valuation is closer to £25m, as mentioned.

Agreeing on personal terms with Gnonto would be a ‘mere formality’ for Tottenham as he wants to leave Leeds ‘as soon as possible,’ with his priority being a return to the Premier League.

Tottenham have signed James Maddison, Micky van de Ven, Guglielmo Vicario, Ashley Phillips and Alejo Veliz this summer.

Now that they have sold Harry Kane to Bayern Munich for £100m, they are looking to bring in a new striker. In that regard, Gent striker Gift Orban and Chelsea centre-forward Romelu Lukaku are the two most heavily-linked players.

Tottenham certainly have plenty of funds to play with at the moment, though, so there is no reason why they couldn’t sign Gnonto as well as a replacement for Kane.

As for Everton, it seems that they will have to get a deal done for Gnonto much quicker than initially anticipated if they want to sign their top target.
