According to rumors, Jonjo Shelvey’s time at Nottingham Forest may be coming to an end shortly since the central midfielder ‘is close to joining Turkish club Rizespor’.
This Wednesday, when Premier League clubs are required to submit their 25-man rosters to the league, the 31-year-old is “set to fly out to join the Super Lig club on loan for the remainder of the season,” according to the Telegraph.
His time at the club would come to an end since Shelvey, who joined earlier in January from Newcastle, signed a contract that will keep him at the City Ground until 2025.
The former England midfielder’s contract at St. James’ Park was slated to expire at the conclusion of the 2022–23 season but he struggled to recover from a soft tissue injury to make more than three appearances before being let go.
The former Liverpool midfielder acknowledged that he had begged Howe to let him quit the team, telling his old boss that he wanted to leave to “have a fresh start.”

He continued to play for Cooper’s team, making eight appearances, but he hasn’t competed for Forest since April.
It follows allegations that he was dissatisfied with Cooper’s choice to bench him for Forest’s trip to Liverpool in the previous campaign.
In addition, Shelvey received the directive to “stay at home” from the Garibaldi manager after Cooper expressed displeasure with his demeanor and training results, with reports suggesting that the two had a “heated conversation” about it.
There was “no ill feeling between the pair,” the Forest manager said in response to accusations that he and the midfielder had a falling out.
For players like Shelvey and Emmanuel Dennis, who was acquired in the summer of 2022 for £15 million, Forest will reportedly consider offers, Mail Sport reported earlier this summer.
Shelvey missed the team’s preseason training camp in Spain and may be close to joining Rizespor given that the Turkish transfer window is about to end on Friday.
Rizespor, who is presently sixth in the Turkish Super Lig, placed 17th in the standings the previous campaign.
Forest, on the other hand, has been busy in the transfer market this summer and has already made a notable addition to their midfield options by purchasing Ibrahim Sangare from PSV Eindhoven for £30 million.
In 45 games across all leagues last season, Sangare scored eight goals, and Forest beat off other clubs to sign him.
