Liam Cooper might have given away something about his Elland Road future following Leeds United’s heartbreaking promotion loss at Wembley Stadium.

Next month is the Scot’s contract expiration date, and there haven’t been many indications that he would remain on past the 2024–2025 season.

Daniel Farke might be persuaded to keep him around for at least one more season, though, given that Leeds has now been relegated from the Premier League and will have to play a second season in the Championship.

Furthermore, Cooper might have just given away a huge clue about his future by saying on X on Tuesday, May 28: “Proud of our Club.” We’ll be back,” a white heart appeared after that.

If the 32-year-old weren’t staying at Elland Road, would he still have written this message?

Will Liam Cooper continue to play for Leeds United?
Having made 284 appearances for Leeds since moving to Elland Road from Chesterfield in August 2014, the defender has developed a cult following among the supporters.

Though he has only made eight league starts and seven more Championship substitute appearances, this season will have been pretty disappointing for him.

Even with Cooper sitting on the bench due to Pascal Struijk’s injury, Joe Rodon and Ethan Ampadu were the chosen tandem. But Rodon might not be coming back.

It makes sense to keep Cooper on a cheap contract given Leeds’ financial difficulties this summer, as the team must raise an eye-watering sum of money through player sales.

For a team vying for promotion from the Premier League, the defender’s experience is crucial, especially since he has been there before and helped the Whites secure Premier League football in the past.

Of course, the Elland Road hierarchy has a number of matters to attend to in the coming months, but some people may not realize how crucial Cooper’s future may be.
