Lecce are poised to renew their interest in Celtic defender Gustaf Lagerbielke.
The Serie A side were in for the Hoops outcast and were unable to do a deal, later claiming his Parkhead wages were too big for them to cover, even in a loan. The centre back has continued to be on the outside of Brendan Rodgers’ squad looking in and could week move on this summer.
He played the last four minutes of a win over St Johnstone in March but was otherwise a spectator during the second half of the season, and will likely want more first team football. Italian outlet Tutto Mercato is now reporting Lecce will launch another attempt to take the Swede to Italy. However Frosinone, recently relegated to Serie B, are set to rival them for his signature.
Last summer, the Hoops recruited Lagerbielke from Elfsborg, the team of new Aberdeen manager Jimmy Thelin, in an attempt to bolster their center-back depth along with Maik Nawrocki. Both, though, were infrequent contributors, with the 24-year-old making fewer appearances than the other due to his lower position in the hierarchy.
In January, Rodgers was prepared to let him go, but a setback for Cameron Carter-Vickers meant that he had to stay for the remainder of the season. Prior to moving to Glasgow, Lagerbielke was named Sweden’s defender of the year, but he was unable to carry that success over to Scotland.
