Newcastle United is reportedly interested in Lazio midfielder Matteo Guendouzi, according to Italian media. According to Gazzetta, Newcastle and Aston Villa, another Premier League team, are interested in the 25-year-old. Even though Lazio does not want to sell the player, the article notes that a £25 million bid might be taken into consideration because the player’s future is “not safe” despite having just started a permanent transfer to Stadio Olimpico.
During Eddie Howe’s first season at the team, Newcastle was reportedly interested in Guendouzi; nevertheless, the midfielder was eventually moved by Arsenal to Marseille in Ligue 1. The French international returned to his native country for two seasons before joining Lazio on a temporary loan that was later extended.
Guendouzi made 46 appearances in all competitions for Lazio during the 2023-24 campaign, helping the Serie A side reach the last-16 of the Champions League. He played 57 times for Arsenal in the Premier League though his only goal for the club came in a 3-0 Europa League win at Qarabağ in 2018.
Bruno Guimaraes has a £100million release clause in his contract that can be triggered until the end of June. Despite this, the club are confident of keeping hold of the Brazilian.
