Even though Euro 2024 is quickly approaching, clubs will already be getting preparations for the upcoming season as pre-season is just a few weeks away. Both Sheffield Wednesday and Sheffield United will be planning their respective rosters for the next season and identifying transfer targets.
There is still a lot of work to be done in preparation for another fiercely competitive Championship season, especially at Bramall Lane in light of the previous season’s failure. We have compiled all of the most recent information about the remaining Championship clubs in the interim.
Aaronson ‘decision’
Following his loan with Union Berlin, Brenden Aaronson is expected to return to Leeds United the following season. The Yorkshire Evening Post reports that Aaronson has discussed his decision to return to Elland Road to participate in the upcoming Championship season instead of going back to Berlin for another loan period with Whites manager Daniel Farke.
Aaronson reportedly received offers from other places, but he ultimately decided he wanted to return to Yorkshire. Aaronson previously told The Athletic about his time at Leeds: “You’re driving yourself crazy about scoring and assisting, then it starts to take over your mind and that’s all you care about.” You want to score and assist so badly that other things, like the (overall) play, start to suffer as a result.
“I recall discussing it with Jesse (Marsch, the former Leeds coach). You’re putting entirely too much pressure on yourself,’ he said. You’re preventing yourself from just playing because you’re constantly preoccupied with goals and assists.
EFL announce changes
Amid debate over the current regulations, the EFL has stated that clubs will talk about the future of financial controls across all levels. In the Championship, teams have also committed to reform and have agreed in principle to aim by the end of the current calendar year to decide how future cost restraints in the division will operate, according to an EFL statement.
“Clubs will now consider multiple options to enhance or replace the current Profitability and Sustainability Rules (P&S) via a new working party that will represent the views of all 24 clubs before deciding on the most appropriate direction of travel.”
Norwich City star Adam Idah has responded to talk of a permanent move to Celtic after an impressive loan spell during the second half of last season. The forward said: “I’m still contracted to Norwich and have four years left there. I’m still going back to Norwich as it stands, I haven’t really thought too much about it. I spoke briefly to Norwich about when I’m coming back. It’s difficult at the start of the window as it’s coming up to our summer holidays and we’re on internationals right now.
“I’ve never been in this situation before and don’t know much about how it works. We’re on internationals right now and that is my main focus. Then I’ll get a holiday or two in and see what happens.”
