If anybody out there thought that Mike Tomlin could be on his way out of Pittsburgh soon, they thought wrong.
According to the team, the Super Bowl-winning head coach and the Pittsburgh Steelers have just recently reached an agreement on a three-year extension
Tomlin’s deal will run through 2027.
The Steelers have had a tremendous run under the 52-year-old head coach, and it’s not done yet
For context, Pittsburgh hired Tomlin to be the head coach back in 2007.
He has never had a losing season in 17 years, which is an NFL record.
That is the definition of consistency and stability from Tomlin’s point of view.
Pittsburgh has made 11 playoff appearances, won the AFC North seven times, made three AFC Championship Game appearances, and has appeared in multiple Super Bowls under Tomlin.
Of course, the highlight on Tomlin’s tenure came in 2008 when the Steelers beat the Arizona Cardinals in Super Bowl XLIII.
Most of Tomlin’s tenure came coaching Ben Roethlisberger for 15 seasons
The two were right up there with Brady and Belichick, Brees and Brady, McCarthy and Rodgers, and Carroll and Wilson as one of the best head coach-quarterback duos in the game.
More recently, Tomlin has had a couple of disappointing seasons with the team.
They have not won a playoff game since 2016.
In Pittsburgh of all places, that is something that needs to change and definitely could with Tomlin staying under contract through 2027.
If he stays through 2027, he will have coached the Steelers for over two decades.
That could end up being a historic mark
