Charlie Mulgrew, a former Celtics player, is “proud” of his son for signing a deal with his former team. Mulgrew, who played 134 league games for the Hoops from 2010 to 2016, announced his retirement earlier this year and joined Doncaster City. As of right now, however, he is reportedly searching for coaching jobs.

Joshua, his son, has signed a professional deal with Celtic in the interim. Joshua Mulgrew, the senior, shared on Instagram, saying, “Proud of you.” The midfield player won two Scottish Cups and five Scottish Premierships while he was a player for Celtic. Later on, he played for Dundee United and Blackburn Rovers in addition to earning 44 senior caps for Scotland.

Mulgrew released a statement last year declaring his retirement from professional football, saying, “Today I’m retiring from playing.” Since all I’ve known is playing football, it’s not an easy choice. First and foremost, I want to express my gratitude to my family and friends for their love, support, and belief in me for the past 21 years. To pursue my dream, you all had to make sacrifices alongside me.

“I’m thankful for everything I’ve learnt and the life I’ve been able to create due of all eight clubs I played for and the 44 times I played for the Scotland national team. My recollections are invaluable. I’ve had the privilege of playing with and against some incredible players, some of whom I consider friends. I’ve been a part of some amazing changing rooms, and I’ve come to realize how important it is to success.

“Without fans, football is nothing, and I appreciate all of your experiences and encouragement, both at my highs and lows. I am eager for tomorrow to bring about fresh starts. Later on, he made a brief comeback to play for Doncaster City, but it’s currently reported that he’s looking to transition into coaching in order to build a career after playing.

Now that Mulgrew junior, now sixteen, has signed his first professional contract, he will be trying to follow in his father’s footsteps.
