Leeds United midfielder Marc Roca is finalising a permanent transfer exit to Real Betis this week, bypassing his loan clause to stay put in Seville long-term.
The 49ers will be confident that this summer’s transfer activity is far less chaotic and out of control than last summer, when loan clauses ran rife in the squad after relegation.
Only a couple hold such clauses in their contracts this time around, and one of them is Marc Roca, who appears to be closing in on avoiding another loan anyway.
Marc Roca ‘finalising’ Real Betis transfer on permanent basis
A report from Estadio Deportivo revealed that Roca was in the process of finalising a transfer away from Leeds again, but this time, seeing him tied down by Real Betis.
Roca spent 23/24 in Seville with Manuel Pellegrini’s side, and seemingly did enough to warrant negotiations for a second stint there.
However, this time he is set to sign permanently despite confirming himself earlier in 2024 as having a second loan clause if Leeds weren’t promoted – of course now the case after the playoff final.
Leeds set for PSR boost with Roca sale this month
Signed for £10million from Bayern Munich in 2022, Roca isn’t expected to be leaving for the same amount, as the above report claims.
Instead, he is set to leave for less than the €12million (£10.15million) buy option that was also included in his 23/24 loan agreement.
The specifics of the fee Leeds look to have compromised on is yet to be revealed, but in terms of PSR, anything over £5million would go into the accounts as profit for the Whites.
Having joined on a four-year deal in 2022, Roca is halfway through his Elland Road contract, and the £10million fee will have been amortised over that contract, working out at £2.5million-per-year – so £5million is left on the accounts.
With this agreement looming, it appears as though Leeds could be in line for a steady PSR boost, should they recoup more than £5million, as is surely expected after a strong season in La Liga at the age of 27.
