There appears to be an unusual situation at Newcastle United right now, as the club is closely linked to the departure of two excellent young players.

Since the season finished, there have been a lot of rumors regarding Yankuba Minteh’s future, with a number of clubs reportedly circling Newcastle with the intention of signing him.

The most recent was a two-for-one agreement with Everton, when Newcastle acquired Yankuba Mitteh and Dominic Calvert-Lewin. A two-fold bargain to navigate the fantastic realm of FFP/PSR.

The other story that Elliot Anderson was offered up in exchange for Wolverhampton Wanderers defender Max Kilman in a player plus cash deal is probably also the result of those dreadful acronyms.

PSR is ruining the game in new spectacular ways

Players who come through the academy are pure profit, and for the buying club, a youth player doesn’t count towards FFP, so all kinds of strange deals will be done this summer. This is because of those stupid Profit and Sustainability Rules, which have caused so many clubs to consider selling promising young players this summer in order to offset larger purchases.

Newcastle is also forced to play about with ridiculous bids for players they could easily afford outright if these limits weren’t in place, all thanks to PSR.

Elliot Anderson would never be traded as a makeweight in a trade for a defender in a normal world.

Craig Hope says Elliot Anderson is hoping to start talks over a new contract

Thankfully, Craig Hope has stated that Elliot Anderson is actively looking for a new contract at St James’ Park and has no plans to leave since that report surfaced.

We believe that Anderson should be kept on staff because he is a gifted native who has a ton of potential.

Why did we not present Wolves with Miguel Almiron or Sean Longstaff? Well, they’re players who are set to depart this summer anyhow. It all doesn’t make sense. It’s been a strange day.
