The 28-year-old scored 47 goals in all competitions for the Reds last season as they won the National League title, and he made his comeback as a second-half substitute in the 2-1 victory over Doncaster Rovers nine days ago. Mullin missed Wrexham’s return to the Football League after suffering a punctured lung and four cracked ribs during the club’s pre-season tour to America.
Mullin, who was reinstated to the starting lineup for Wrexham’s match against Grimsby Town on Saturday at The STóK Cae Ras, failed to capitalize on the opportunities that were presented to him, but the frontman played a key role in the team’s deserved 3-0 victory and seven-game league unbeaten streak.
Parkin, Mullin’s assistant manager, is overjoyed to have him available once more and believes it is just a matter of time before he starts to score goals.
Paul was off the pace when he first returned, but Parkin noted that he had a great training week.
“For him to play the way he did, okay, he didn’t score, but he got in some excellent spots.
He was a genuine threat throughout the entire day, and we got some really good balls down the side to him.
We are pleased with his performance because the Grimsby center-backs are aware that they have played in a genuine game.
He is a confident young man when it comes to goal-scoring; he missed a few, but that won’t deter him because it never has before.
“We are happy to have him back, and we are happy with his performance and the team’s overall effort, which was very appreciated.
Boyle’s goal was outstanding.
“James McClean’s cross was a little behind him, and he’s just caught a peek in the corner.
We pose a danger both from the air and from the ground, therefore the day was quite satisfying.
The Reds’ top scorer Lee added the last goal late in the 79th minute, scoring seven times in eight league games.
Elliott simply has a knack for showing up in the box at the appropriate time, according to Parkin.
He can score goals from beyond the penalty area, as we have all seen, but he prefers to go right in the box as a midfielder.
“He creates an overload and an extra man in there, and when he gets the chance, you always fancy him to score.”
Parkin was pleased with the performance, which saw Wrexham climb to fourth place in the standings, three points behind Gillingham, the current leader.
“We have been striving and looking for a real, solid, workmanlike performance but with good football in it,” continued Parkin.
“We haven’t quite had it in a while, but I think we did extremely well today.
We were a serious goal threat and could have won by more goals. It was a thoroughly good defensive performance.
