Nottingham Forest are said to have reignited their interest in Wolfsburg midfielder Aster Vranckx.

The Reds were first linked with the 21-year-old two years ago. However, they were not the only ones keen at the time and the youngster opted to join AC Milan on loan.

It seems Vranckx could be on the move again this summer. But once again, Forest could face a fight for his signature.

According to HITC, Forest are “still in pursuit” of the Belgium international – as are Everton, who also had their eye on him in 2022. Fulham and Brighton and Hove Albion are said to be keeping tabs on him as well.

It is Crystal Palace, though, who are seemingly in pole position to potentially snap him up. They are said to be the only club “to progress in discussions” as it stands.

Vranckx has 12 months remaining on his contract, making it likely Wolfsburg will look to cash in. The German side are said to be prepared to let the player go for a fee in the region of £15 million.

Explaining his decision to join Milan, the midfielder said at the time: “Things did not go as expected in Wolfsburg. The new coach told me that at the moment he saw better other players and that they would have priority, but also said that he considered me a good player and all these things, but that he could not give me the minutes I wanted.

“I had to look for a solution and I liked the Milan project a lot. They work with a lot of young players and they immediately showed me that they really want to give me opportunities.

“Although obviously I have to work a lot, that’s how it works in a great club. It’s part of the job.”

However, his move to Italy did not work out as he had hoped. Vranckx made just 10 appearances in all competitions and started just twice in Serie A. An option to buy him for around £10m was not taken up. On his return to Wolfsburg, he started 12 Bundesliga games last season.
