Luis Guilherme and Wes Foderingham will be playing at the London Stadium this summer thanks to the collaborative efforts of Julen Lopetegui and Tim Steidten.
It was reported last month that Lopetegui intends to sign at least six new players during the summer transfer window.
I think the Spaniard actually needs to make more than that if he is to oversee some genuine progress at the club.
However, six new signings would be acceptable I suppose, as long as one of them is a top-class new striker.
And now the Hammers boss appears to have someone very specific in mind for the job at the London Stadium….
Alexander Sorloth could return to the Premier League for West Ham after Max Kilman.
Since 2015, Michail Antonio has been a fantastic player for us overall and has spearheaded the Hammers’ line for the past several seasons.
But over the past year, the 34-year-old has regressed so much that it’s time for Lopetegui to significantly improve on him.
Although Antonio shouldn’t be starting for us every week, I still think he could be helpful as an impact substitute.
It appears that Alexander Sorloth might be the one to step up and take over from the Jamaican international.
According to a report from AS, the Hammers want to bring the 28-year-old hitman back to the Premier League from La Liga this summer.
He’ll cost around £32 million according to AS.
Sorloth scored 131 goals in 368 career games. Last season for Villarreal, he bagged an impressive 26 goals and six assists in 41 games.
Standing at 6ft 5in tall, the 53-capped Norway international is always a real handful for opposing centre-backs.
The former Crystal Palace striker is incredibly strong in the air, obviously, and he is an elite finisher.
Sorloth would make us even more of a threat from set-pieces, and he’d provide the Hammers with a completely different option through the middle.
Whether he’s quick and hard-working enough to succeed in a Lopetegui team isn’t entirely conclusive either way.
However, if Alexander Sorloth is the man who follows Max Kilman to West Ham this summer, I’ll be more than happy.
