Goalkeeper Vincente Guaita has continued to describe the circumstances surrounding his departure from Crystal Palace in the summer, saying he had a falling out with the club’s manager Roy Hodgson.
The Spanish player discussed his transfer to Celta Vigo, which happened after he left Crystal Palace this summer on a free transfer, with Spanish streaming service DAZN.
The goalkeeper was in the final year of his contract at Selhurst Park but found himself out of the first team when Hodgson came back to keep them out of the bottom division last season.
As a result, he expressed a desire to leave Selhurst Park in the summer. Hodgson later stated Guaita had refused to play in an effort to expedite his departure.
He eventually left after that and joined Rafa Benitez’s Celta Vigo on the day of the deadline.
One would think that Guaita would be content with his lot after the transfer and return to Spain, but that has not been the case. Ever since his arrival, he has been continuously discussing his departure from Crystal Palace.
He previously stated that they had impeded his ability to depart, even withholding transfer documents, and he has since continued by outlining what transpired behind the scenes.
“If it is true that we were already in the last years with the desire to change again, we had been in Crystal Palace for many years, where we were very happy, but there were things on the way we did not like,” the man remarked.
“There were six games left in the league, I played against Leicester, I got hurt, and when I came back, Roy Hodgson told me things that I didn’t understand, much like when I first started with him.
“At that point, I determined that my time at Crystal Palace was up, and I told the president so.
There were difficult times when things were tight, but they believed that the best course of action for me was to cut off communication with Crystal.
