According to a recent report, The Hammers are now weighing up a bid for a prolific striker on the continent.
The Julen Lopetegui’s era has begun and transfer plans are already well underway having added Luis Guilherme and Max Kilman to their ranks.
Now, attention has turned towards landing a striker and with that said, they could submit a bid for one in the coming days as the Premier League campaign fast approaches.
West Ham consider Alexander Sorloth bid
According to Diario AS, via West Ham Central, West Ham United are considering a bid to sign Villarreal striker Alexander Sorloth.
The 28-year-old has a £32m release clause but it seems The Hammers are hoping to strike a deal for less than that.
Sorloth, who had a brief spell at Crystal Palace, netted 23 times whilst laying on six assists in LaLiga last term and has cemented himself as one of the most prolific goalscorers on the continent over the last few seasons.
He’s thought to be available this summer as Villarreal are in need of a big sale to balance the books – leaving West Ham in a strong position to land his signature.
Alexander Sorloth statistics
Sorloth, who has netted 131 times in his career, is much more than just as a goalscorer as his FBref statistics amplify.
The Norway international ranks in the top 26 per cent for pass completion compared to his positional peers across Europe – evincing his proficiency in possession of the ball – and he sits in the top 27 per cent for successful take-ons.
His playmaking abilities are also really impressive, sitting in the top 29 per cent for assists.
With that said, if West Ham were to sign him this summer, he’d be the perfect fit for Lopetegui’s possession-based approach.
