Cyriel Dessers has addressed his future at Rangers amid talk of heading for the exit door this summer.

Philippe Clement has revealed that in order to press ahead with his Light Blues rebuild this summer he will have to offload some of his first-team stars. The Belgian boss has brought in a number of new faces to date but know he needs a lot more to mount a title challenge with Celtic and fulfil their Champions League ambitions with the qualifiers just around the corner. However, new faces are dependant on player sales with the Nigeria international one who has been mentioned.

Dessers – who netted 22 goals and provided nine assists in 54 appearances last season – has been linked with moves to Saudi Arabia, Spain and France during the window so far while Cagliari are also thought to be interested. He was in pre-season action against Ajax as the Ibrox men went down 2-1 to the Dutch giants and he spoke to Ziggo Sports about his future. Asked about his wishes going forward this season, he told them: “I am very happy here, so I would like to stay. There is some interest, but my intention is to stay and then we will see what happens.”

His desire to remain at Ibrox comes after Clement’s confession that he must raise funds to keep his summer rebuild in the works. He said: “That’s the reality. That’s the reality that the board told me a few months ago.

“I know this, the recruitment team knows this also. This is the reality of the club. I had other expectations when I came in in October, I have to say. But I know the reality now. I am very motivated to build the club and help in that.”

A host of big names like James Tavernier and Connor Goldson have been linked with a Steven Gerrard reunion in Saudi Arabia while Todd Cantwell is another who has been part of the transfer talk rumour mill. Scott Wright has interest from Sheffield Wednesday down south and former star Glen Kamara is set to net the club a windfall when he leaves Leeds.
