Celtic and Brendan Rodgers want to target ‘proven’ players in the transfer market this summer and that may explain why things are moving a bit slower for them.
Fans are always on tenterhooks at this time of year wanting news of signings but the club would rather take their time, do their due diligence and get the right players in. The Hoops are yet to land their first transfer of the summer but concrete interest has now emerged in Burnley defender Dara O’Shea.
The 25-year-old fits the ball having played in the Premier League for both the Clarets and West Brom and also has 25 international caps for the Republic of Ireland. He was transferred between the two clubs for £7million just last year though and that could make things tough for the Scottish champions.

“There is interest and we are waiting. Many clubs make their moves after the Copa América and so we are going to wait. Several clubs from Spain, Portugal and Belgium have asked too, as well as from the MLS, although we would prefer the footballer to go to Europe.
“It’s not about disparaging MLS or anything like that, but we want to try to get Andy Rojas into Europe and have a sell-on clause in case of a second sale. We are looking for a league similar to the ones in Belgium and Portugal and then he can make the jump to a stronger one.”
Celtic still need a new goalkeeper and it emerged yesterday that a path could open up for Martin Dubravka after Newcastle signed not one but TWO new shotstoppers. The 35-year-old was quizzed on his future after playing for Slovakia against England at the Euros.
He said: “I have no idea. I have seen they are talking with other goalkeepers. I need to speak with the manager first. What is the plan for me? What is my future? I don’t know if they want me to stay or not. It is difficult for me, because I have been focussed on my job with the national team.”
Star man of last season Matt O’Riley could leave Parkhead this summer with growing interest in his signature. Southampton were said to be readying an offer in recent days and reports today suggest other Premier League sides are now also circling.
