Brendan Rodgers has dropped a strong hint that Matt O’Riley could be on the move before the summer transfer window closes.
The midfielder was consistently excellent throughout the 23/24 season while his manager tried to find solutions to the injuries that kept Reo Haatate and Callum McGregor out of the side.
O’Riley seems unfazed by the speculation but there was a giveaway from Rodgers when he mentioned ‘while he’s here’ in comments after Saturday’s 4-0 win over DC United.
Football Scotland reports the Celtic manager saying:
Clearly he’s developed into a fantastic player and when you do that at a club like Celtic, there’ll always be speculation and interest. But while he’s here, we’ll always work on improving him, developing him.
He’s also of that nature. He’s got a first-class attitude and that’s why we’ve been really comfortable with the situation he’s in. He can captain the team the other night and he’s a fantastic professional.
Over the next week O’Riley will be in action against Manchester City and Chelsea, with players returning from the European Championships transfer activity is likely to increase entering the final month of the window
