Premier League newcomers Leicester City have confirmed the departure of an exciting winger on loan, according to the club’s official website. 

The Foxes are once again preparing for life in the topflight having gained promotion from the Championship last season. As yet, they have not been overly active in the transfer window with the only notable exit being Kiernan Dewbury-Hall’s move to Chelsea and the release of Kelechi Iheanacho, Marc Albrighton and Dennis Praet.

The Foxes are once again preparing for life in the topflight having gained promotion from the Championship last season. As yet, they have not been overly active in the transfer window with the only notable exit being Kiernan Dewbury-Hall’s move to Chelsea and the release of Kelechi Iheanacho, Marc Albrighton and Dennis Praet .However, they have now confirmed the departure of promising young winger Silko Thomas to League One Wigan Athletic for the 2024/25 season. The 20-year-old has only been with the club for just under a year, having joined from Chelsea’s academy in the summer 2023 window. He featured 19 times for the club’s youth teams last season scoring six goals.

He now links up with the Latics for his first spell in senior football. Wigan’s first season back in League One last year saw them end in a disappointing 12th, failing to mount a serious push for promotion despite a run of good form towards the end of the season. They successfully defeated inform Lincoln City, ending their unbeaten run and Champions Portsmouth in the final weeks of the season.

They have been moderately active in the transfer window with notable additions including Joe Hugill from Manchester City, Andy Lonergan from Everton, Calvin Ramsay from Liverpool, Will Aimson from Exeter City and Tyrese Francois from Fulham amongst others. Thomas now becomes signing number nine for the window.

Can Thomas do it for Wigan?

Silko Thomas has the kind of raw talent and ability that managers love to get their hands on in the lower leagues. His ability to drop his shoulder and run past opposition defenders could prove vital. However the step up from academy football to League One is a huge step. In fact the player featured in his parent clubs’ thrashing at the hands of Wigan (7-1) in the EFL trophy playing the majority of the game. He will be hoping his reunion with the club will go slightly better than his first meeting.
