The Rangers players received harsh criticism from Michael Stewart for their play in the team’s victory over Motherwell on Sunday (24 September).

On Sunday (35:47), the analyst claimed that the Gers were “poor” despite winning 1-0 thanks to a goal from striker Cyriel Dessers in the first half.

The three points, he continued, were the “most important thing” for the Light Blues, but it was also necessary to note that there were still a lot of unanswered questions.

Motherwell were excellent, while Rangers were terrible, according to Stewart.

“They were able to earn three points, which is ultimately what matters the most. However, there are still a lot of uncertainties around this side, so the performance level is crucial for Rangers and Michael Beale right now.

They did not generate a lot of opportunities and had poor possession. However, if you turned around, it was the opposite. The only thing they were missing was the finishing touch, even though they had excellent possession and moved the ball into promising locations.

Fortunate

There is little doubt that Rangers were fortunate to win the game because, based on their performance at Ibrox, they hardly deserved to.

Motherwell, as Stewart noted, were the superior team and generated numerous scoring opportunities, but they lacked poise when it mattered most.

The Steelmen might have left Glasgow with all three points on another day, and there wouldn’t have been any debate about whether or not they deserved it.

Even though they weren’t pleased with the manner they played, the Gers did manage to secure the victory, so they can now look to carry that with them.

Over the next weeks, the Light Blues must really develop their fluidity because that is how you develop confidence for when the big games—the ones where everyone’s tenure at the club is really judged—come around.
