It’s been a slow transfer window thus far but Newcastle United are still trying to do business, it seems.

Indeed, the signing of a central defender is believed to remain on the agenda for Newcastle, amid their interest in Marc Guehi.

While Crystal Palace are reportedly open to selling the England defender, a fee has yet to have been agreed.

Sporting director Paul Mitchell is said to be looking towards alternatives in the market as a result, though the next few days aren’t only going to be about incomings at Newcastle.

Kieran Trippier is facing an uncertain future after reportedly asking to leave, while Eddie Howe has revealed another full-back could depart.

Jamal Lewis could yet find a new club during what remains of the transfer window.

Eddie Howe says Jamal Lewis could leave Newcastle very soon

The £15m defender was involved in first-team training earlier this summer and even appeared in some of the pre-season friendlies but Howe has confirmed he could soon leave.

“Jamal is still the same position that I discussed a couple of weeks ago,” Howe told Newcastle World.

“Let’s see what happens between now and the window, there’s a chance he could leave.”

Jamal Lewis has just not worked for Newcastle

Howe has done a remarkable job in turning things around at Newcastle, particularly for players who looked short of confidence under Steve Bruce.

Miguel Almiron and Joelinton have both been highlighted by pundits such as Gary Lineker in that respect.

Lewis is perhaps the only one of those who has been unable to resurrect his career under Howe, which is a great shame.

Still, with Lewis Hall starting to impress at left-back and all of Lloyd Kelly, Dan Burn and Matt Targett in the squad, there is little doubt Newcastle have cover in that particular position.

It’s a shame Lewis has been unable to turn things around but the ship, sadly, looks to have sailed now.

Hopefully, he can get a permanent move away and rebuild his career elsewhere.
