Nottingham Forest enjoyed a quality transfer window on the face things with the club addressing a number of areas within the squad.

Eleven new players were brought in, and two of them, David Carmo and Marko Stamenic, were loaned to Olympiacos for the duration of the season.

The most significant detail was that, when you factor in the lackluster loans from the previous season, almost 20 players were released, meaning that clearing the decks was necessary.

On the day of the transfer deadline, Anthony Elanga, another Forest player, was said to be joining Newcastle; however, Forest maintained their £50 million valuation.

That intrigue might not go away, and Forest would surely require a replacement if he were to depart in January or the following summer.

Journalist picks perfect replacement for Anthony Elanga.

It’s quite clear that Elanga is going nowhere for now. The window is closed until January and even then Forest might choose to stand firm.

Next summer could be very different though. If Newcastle get themselves into Europe, Eddie Howe might tempt the club to part with £50 million for Elanga’s signature.

That would leave Forest seeking a replacement and Forest Focus host, Matt Davies would love to see Brennan Johnson back at the club.

In the Carabao Cup last night, the Tottenham player scored a late victory alongside Djed Spence, a former Forest promotion hero.

“Come back home Brennan if #NFFC end up selling Elanga in a year for massive money,” he wrote on X.

Johnson facing crossroads at Tottenham.

Johnson would have had to make the painful decision to leave Forest and join Tottenham after a £47.5 million deal was accepted a year ago.

After helping the team get promoted to the Premier League, the academy graduate scored eight goals to help Steve Cooper seal the team’s survival.

Johnson served as Forest’s makeweight in their attempt to adhere to financial fair play, an attempt that they ultimately failed at because they sold him too late.

He has no academy credit at Tottenham, and he recently removed his social media profiles due to intense criticism from the club’s supporters!

His Tottenham career is clearly coming to an end at this point, as Ange Postecoglou supported him in the media prior to last night’s League Cup match against Coventry.

It is unclear if Johnson would still be available for a transfer in a year.

The player would undoubtedly seize the opportunity to play regularly in the Premier League for a team very near to his heart if he was available and the price was right.

Johnson had nearly identical statistics to Elanga in the Premier League last season, with five goals and ten assists.

Although Johnson has demonstrated in the past that he is a highly talented Premier League player, Forest will always want to look forward.
