On Sunday, former President Donald Trump declared that if his bid to win back the White House in 2024 fails, he does not “think” he will run for president again in 2028.
“No, I’m not. When asked if he would run for office again, journalist Sharyl Attkisson asked Trump, “I think that will be, that will be it.”
The remark was noteworthy because it appeared to rule out a fourth presidential run by Trump, who rarely acknowledges that he might lose an election. Normally, Trump maintains that such an event would only be possible in the event of widespread cheating—a bogus accusation he made in 2020 and repeated in anticipation of his 2024 presidential campaign.
In 2028, Trump will be 82 years old, one year older than current President Joe Biden. After a catastrophic debate performance and months of criticism from Trump and other conservatives for being too old and unpredictable for the position, Biden withdrew from the race in July.
Trump was interviewed by Attkisson for her program “Full Measure.” In addition, Trump defended his record on the coronavirus outbreak during the 22-minute interview. While claiming credit for the creation of the COVID-19 vaccinations during his administration, he also stated that “studies are being done on the vaccines, and we’re going to find out” whether or not they are safe.
Trump claimed that although Democrats continue to believe in vaccines, Republicans have grown skeptical of them.
The comment regarding 2028 was made just at the conclusion of the interview, which also featured a query on how Trump maintains his health. The former president said, “I try and eat properly,” to Attkisson’s disbelieving gaze. She pointed out that Trump had gained notoriety for his love of hamburgers.
“Adequate burgers,” declared Trump.
