The Kansas City Chiefs, led by Patrick Mahomes, have a 3-0 record and have won all of their games in the final minute.
The game coming Sunday against the Los Angeles Chargers is probably going to be another close one, considering their previous games.
Seven of the ten meetings between Mahomes and the Chargers have been decided by a score or fewer, despite the Chiefs’ five-game winning streak over their AFC West opponents.
With plays in the last moments, the Chiefs defeated Cincinnati and Baltimore. Nick Bolton stopped Bijan Robinson of Atlanta last week on fourth down to preserve a 22-17 victory.
Mahomes, who will start for the first time in his 100 regular-season games on Sunday, stated, “Offensively, we have to help the defense out by running some of that time off the clock or scoring a touchdown to kind of put the game out of reach.”
All four of the Chiefs’ previous games at the Chargers stadium were decided in the closing seconds, with two of those games taking place in overtime in 2020 and 2021. With 48 seconds remaining in Week 18 of the previous season, Harrison Butker’s field goal gave the Chiefs a 13–12 victory.
While Justin Herbert, the quarterback for the Chargers, was sidelined by a finger injury, Mahomes was getting ready for the playoffs.
The Chargers, who are currently 2-1, are trying to get back after falling to Pittsburgh 20-10 the previous week. Herbert is anticipated to play despite suffering from a high left ankle sprain for the second straight week.
In his first NFL start, Herbert faced the Chiefs, and he has a 2-5 record against them.
Jim Harbaugh has a significant chance to show that the Chargers are progressing in his first season as head coach in this game.
Los Angeles needs to do better in the division if they hope to challenge in the AFC West. Between 2013 and 2023, the Chargers’ record versus the Chiefs, Broncos, and Raiders was a dismal 23–43.
Kansas City, on the other hand, has won seven of their last eighteen games and 17 of their previous 22 meetings. Since 2013, the Chargers have not swept the Chiefs.
When asked if this game was a test for his team, Harbaugh responded, “It’s a tremendous opportunity and we’re treating it as such.”
