The Pittsburgh Steelers have signed linebacker Jacoby Windmon to their practice squad after a series of recent roster moves. Windmon, who originally joined the Steelers as an undrafted free agent following the 2024 NFL Draft, returns after being released during the final roster cuts. The Michigan State product showcased his versatility throughout the preseason, playing both inside and outside linebacker positions. This versatility, along with his strong preseason performance, likely influenced the Steelers’ decision to bring him back into the fold.

Windmon’s preseason included three games where he logged 89 defensive snaps and contributed on special teams. Notably, he earned a standout Pro Football Focus (PFF) grade of 90.0 during the Steelers’ preseason opener against the Houston Texans. Despite this, his performance waned slightly in subsequent games due to missed tackles, but his overall potential impressed the coaching staff. Steelers defensive coordinator Teryl Austin praised Windmon, highlighting his instincts and ability to communicate effectively on the field. Austin also emphasized Windmon’s ability to play multiple linebacker positions, a crucial asset in the Steelers’ defensive schemes.

During his college career, Windmon played 41 games across UNLV and Michigan State. He gained attention for his defensive playmaking, racking up 64 tackles, 6.5 sacks, and forcing six fumbles in his final season at Michigan State. However, a pectoral injury in 2023 limited his playing time and contributed to him going undrafted.

Despite not making the initial 53-man roster, Windmon’s return to the Steelers’ practice squad offers him an opportunity to continue developing within the system. While the Steelers have a deep linebacker room, his potential to contribute on special teams or as a rotational player keeps him on the radar for future game-day activations.
