Jackson Hastings, a halfback for the Newcastle Knights, has spoken out about rumors that he would transfer abroad before his contract expires at the end of the 2025 season.

Hastings was Newcastle’s first-choice halfback at the beginning of the season, but after joining the team from the Wests Tigers, he has fallen in the hierarchy due to his lack of performance.

Not only did he lose his starting position in the halves of the NSW Cup to hooker Phoenix Crossland during the 2024 NRL Finals series, but he was also forced to play as a lock forward.

With a contract that pays roughly $800,000 per season until the conclusion of the following season, there have been persistent rumors that he is planning to leave and go back to the Super League, where he earned the Man of Steel award in 2020—the league’s version of the Dally M Medal.

Hastings, though, has refuted the rumors and stated that he intends to stay at Newcastle until the end of the 2025 NRL season, when his contract expires.

According to Sky Sports, Hastings stated over the weekend, “No, I’ve obviously got a contract next year.”

“I’ve not had a conversation with any Super Leaguers.” I’ve heard rumors that I’ll be returning to a couple clubs.

“I’m now really enjoying my life in Australia, and I hope to stay here for as long as I can. You never know, maybe I’ll return here and get to play in stadiums like this one day.

“My time here was truly enjoyable, but it has run its course. I’m thrilled to be back in Australia with my family, but you never know when you might find me back here taking part in a game like this.

With the losses of David Armstrong and Daniel Saifiti, Hastings’ exit would free up even more salary cap room for the Knights, who are actively rebuilding their squad.

Leo Thompson, Jayden Brailey, Adam Elliott, Tyson Frizell, Jack Hetherington, Brodie Jones, and Dane Gagai are among the other players who have been connected to the team’s departure.
