Sheikh Jassim may now become more interested in buying West Ham United since his effort to buy Manchester United failed, as prior reports claimed they offer an alternative to his intentions.
On October 14, Fabrizio Romano revealed on his Twitter page that Sheikh Jassim withdrew his interest in the chase after his £5.7 billion offer for the entire takeover of Manchester United was rejected.
On July 11, BBC writer Simon Stone stated on the Stretford Paddock YouTube channel that if Sheikh Jassim’s offer for Manchester United fails, Qatari interest may shift to other Premier League teams, such as West Ham.
Similar to this, a story from the Spanish news media El Pais reported [20 May] that the Qatari Sheikh had an alternative thanks to the Hammers.
The podcast Stone spoke with about Manchester United had made assumptions about what a non-Manchester United takeover would entail for the team, but it appears the general agreement is that Qatar will want to slam money into whoever they acquire, similar to what we’ve seen at Manchester City and Newcastle.
Following the team’s triumph in Europe the previous season, West Ham may be an intriguing focal point for this. This could provide a solid basis for the club to continue its success and compete against competitors in the Premier League’s “competition among the Gulf states,” as Stone put it.
After their exploits last season, the Hammers have set themselves up for possible success this year by utilizing a busy transfer window to assemble a team that can compete in all four leagues.
There have also been rumors that West Ham’s rivals Tottenham could be a target for a takeover, but with their massive stadium and London location, West Ham has more potential and might be a less expensive option for a full acquisition and a long-term project.
