For those associated with Wrexham AFC, the season has gotten off to a largely favorable start.

The Welsh club is currently displaying promise in League Two after winning the National League title last season to secure promotion back to the Football League after a 15-year absence. Since the start of the season, Phil Parkinson’s team has amassed some excellent performances that indicate, at the very least, they can compete at the fourth-tier of English football.

Some members of the squad, nevertheless, have found it difficult to break into this Wrexham team since the season’s beginning and would benefit from a loan move elsewhere in January in order to receive more consistent playing time. In light of this, we’ve looked at three players that Wrexham might want to consider loaning out when the transfer window reopens in January.

Liam McAlinden

Despite having had a minor impact in Wrexham’s season-long promotion campaign, McAlinden was given a new contract during the summer.

The attacker has, however, once again struggled to find opportunities during the current season, making few appearances in the league. Since his contract is once again set to expire in the summer, a loan move might make sense for McAlinden to give him the playing time he needs to prove whether or not he deserves a new deal, while Wrexham should be able to function without him given their attacking options and his relative lack of involvement thus far this season.

Billy Waters

Waters joined Wrexham from Barrow in March 2022 on a deal that would last until the conclusion of the 2024–25 season, but he has since had trouble getting into the Red Dragons’ lineups.

Since joining Parkinson’s team, the striker has only made a few appearances, with the most of those coming off the bench. This is likely to have been a trying period for the 28-year-old from a personal standpoint.

Max Cleworth

Having come through Wrexham’s academy, Cleworth has played an important role in the National League at senior level for the club in the past couple of seasons.

However, the 21-year-old has found chances harder to come by during the current campaign, where most of his game time has predominantly come in the cup competitions up until this point.

Given he is at the age where he is going to want to build on that experience from the past couple of seasons, the fact he is not getting a great deal of game time at the minute, means he too could benefit from a loan move in January, that opens the door for him to get those first-team opportunities elsewhere.

With that in mind, Waters might be another player who could profit from a loan move in January. If he can start to acquire some momentum, a loan move could help him restart his playing career and put him in a better position to contribute to Wrexham next season.
