After Ronaldo cancelled his former Real Madrid teammate Karim Benzema’s first goal for Al-Ittihad, it appeared as though Al-Nassr would earn a hard-fought point.
However, Steven Bergwijn struck in stoppage time in the second half to give the home team all three points. The 39-year-old promised that his club would overcome this setback after that devastating defeat.
He posted a picture of himself and his teammates huddled together on the field to Instagram along with the caption, “We will come back stronger.”
With just 13 games played, Al-Nassr now trails Saudi Pro League leaders Al-Ittihad by 11 points. They may already be out of the running for the title after finishing in fourth place previous season, far behind Al-Hilal. Ronaldo could have to wait a little while longer to win a championship with the Saudi squad.
On January 9, 2025, Ronaldo’s Al-Nassr will host Al Akhdoud in an attempt to get back to winning ways following the midseason break.
