Villa star features in Garth Crooks’ team of the week
Garth Crooks has picked out one Aston Villa player to feature in his team of the week.
Villa eased to a 4-1 win over West Ham at Villa Park last Sunday. Douglas Luiz scored twice, as Leon Bailey and Ollie Watkins also got on the scoresheet.
The result at B6 was Villa’s 11th home win in a row, and certainly caught the eye of many. Crooks was particularly impressed with Luiz, and told BBC Sport: “The penalty was never in doubt once Douglas Luiz stepped up to take it.
“Villa fans know only too well my thoughts on the Brazilian. He has the same influence on his team as Dennis Mortimer did during the club’s golden period in the early 80’s.
“I’m not sure they are good enough for the Champions League but I said that about Newcastle and look what they are doing.”
