In Sunday’s match against Everton, David Moyes might give Thilo Kehrer a significant opportunity to save his West Ham United career.

Should Thilo Kehrer receive a big opportunity to prove himself this weekend when West Ham hosts Everton without Emerson Palmieri due to suspension? I believe so.

The 27-year-old has only appeared in 18 Premier League minutes so far this season (Transfermarkt), although he did recently claim that his aspirations of becoming a regular first-team player were severely hampered by an injury sustained during preseason and the early part of the campaign. With Emerson suspended, Hammers manager David Moyes faces a difficult choice this coming Saturday. He should not choose Aaron Cresswell or Ben Johnson to start at left back because they are both unreliable. Another possibility is Nayef Aguerd, however his recent performance has been very concerning. Thus, perhaps, just perhaps, this is Kehrer’s chance to shine. After a major West Ham blow ahead of Everton, David Moyes needs to make a daring move regarding Thilo Kehrer.

In my opinion, the Germany international is the one who ought to start this weekend against Everton instead of Emerson.

It’s not like he’s never played left-back before—he’s played the position eight times in his career (Transfermarkt), and twice for West Ham.

Kehrer’s tenure at West Ham has been marred by errors and snap judgments, but let’s face it—if you’re not a decent player, you don’t earn 27 caps for Germany. The former star of Paris Saint-Germain has demonstrated that he possesses the skills necessary to thrive in the Premier League; he simply needs to make a few minor adjustments to his style of play. This coming weekend, Thilo Kehrer—and perhaps even Aguerd—would be a better choice for West Ham than Cresswell or Johnson, in my opinion. The 27-year-old’s position at full back is unquestionably more suitable for him than center back. Additionally, the German defender will have a great opportunity to save his Hammers career if Moyes gives him a start against the Toffees.
