Former Rangers star Nacho Novo has announced his sudden departure from USL League One side Lexington SC – just one month after landing his first managerial role.

The Gers idol took over the reins at the Kentucky-based outfit – nicknamed the ‘boys in green’ – four weeks ago from close friend Sam Stockley, who stepped aside to concentrate on his sporting director post.

Novo had spent a short spell as assistant coach and under-23s boss before stepping up into the hot seat of the United States third-tier club. However, the Spaniard failed to win any of his five matches in charge – losing two and drawing three – and was unable to improve their standing in the 12-team league, with the club finishing ninth overall.

And the 44-year-old former striker has decided to leave his role following the dismal start to his tenure. He wrote on Instagram: “Well today I said bye to Lexington. It was a good season. Thanks to all the fans and players. Good luck for next season.”

Novo followed that up by sharing an image of him celebrating a goal from his Ibrox playing days, with the caption: “Thanks everyone for your support. I will be back.”
